St Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum

Updated: Dec 8, 2018

Built in the late 1500's, it's the city's oldest standing brick structure and one of the most iconic buildings in St Augustine. With 219 steps to the top, visitors can take in the scenic views of Anastasia Island, the St Augustine port and the Matanzas river. Just a 7-10 minute drive away, make sure to check out this fun and interactive place that has been guiding sea travelers safely through the waters of the oldest continually occupied European port city in the continental United States.

What can visitors do?

" The Museum today serves 225,000 visitors each year. The Interpretive Division provides docent-led guided tours that are free with the cost of admission, on the hour between 11 am and 4 pm each day. This includes a tour of artifact conservation areas featuring artifacts from historic shipwrecks. Ship modeling, Heritage Boat Building and interactive exhibitions use visual, audio, tactile, and kinesthetic learning to share information with everyone."

What makes it unique?

It's considered one of the most haunted buildings in America. Ghost Hunters filmed several episodes here. Visitors that are brave enough can purchase tickets to the Dark of the Moon ghost tours and maybe catch a glimpse of the paranormal!
